Jyotiva

Terms and conditions

Last updated 18 October 2026

These terms apply to your use of Jyotiva, the app and website that show Vedic astrology charts, classical book rules, daily readings and related tools. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. What Jyotiva is, and what it is not

Jyotiva calculates birth charts from the birth details you enter and shows what the classical Jyotish texts say about them: planetary positions, dashas, yogas, transits, muhurta (good dates), numerology and a daily reading. Every reading names the rule or verse it comes from.

It is a reflection and learning aid, not a prediction service. Astrology is a traditional system of meanings. Our own tests of the daily reading on hundreds of dated life events found that it does not tell good days from bad better than chance, and we say so inside the app. Nothing in Jyotiva is a statement about what will happen to you.

It is not professional advice. Nothing in the app is medical, legal, financial, psychological or safety advice, and it must not be used to decide on treatment, surgery or childbirth timing, investments, contracts, travel safety or any other matter with real consequences. Decide those on their practical merits and with qualified professionals.

2. Who may use it

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • Sign-up may be open, invite-only or closed, as set by the person who runs this instance. An invite code is personal to the person it was given to.
  • You may add charts for other people (family, friends) only with their knowledge, and you are responsible for the birth details you enter about them.

3. Your account

  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Sessions stay signed in for 30 days on a browser; changing your password signs out every other device.
  • You can delete all your data, or your whole account, at any time from Settings. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
  • The person who runs this instance can disable an account that breaks these terms or misuses the app, and can switch features on or off per account.

4. Written readings

Some features (the full report, “Ask my chart” and the optional “Read my day” on the Today page) send the calculated facts of a chart, together with your question, to a third-party service (currently provided by Google) that prepares the written text. These readings are written automatically: they can be wrong, incomplete or inconsistent even when they sound confident, and they are limited to what the classical rules say. Treat them as you would treat the rest of the app, as traditional guidance, not as fact or advice. Written readings are limited per account and per day.

5. Acceptable use

  • Do not use the app to harass, defame or make decisions about other people (hiring, lending, medical care, relationships) based on their chart.
  • Do not try to access other people’s accounts or data, overload the service, or copy the rule library, calculations or interface for another product.
  • Do not enter data about other people that you have no right to share.

6. Content and ownership

The app’s software, interface, rule library and the wording of its readings belong to Jyotiva and its contributors. The classical texts quoted are public domain works; their translations are credited where used. The birth details, events and notes you enter remain yours; you give us only the right to process them to run the app for you.

7. Availability and changes

The app is provided as it is and as available. Features can change, be renamed or be removed, and the calculations and rule tables can be corrected as we learn more. We may change these terms; the date at the top shows the current version, and continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. Material changes are announced in the app.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Jyotiva and the person who runs this instance are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from relying on a reading, a date, a number or a written answer, from the app being unavailable, or from data you entered being wrong. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free service is nothing.

9. Privacy

How your data is handled is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

10. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the courts of the place where the operator of this instance is based. Questions about these terms: the Jyotiva team.
